“Create (or buy) your own product first, piggyback affiliate marketing on your success for even greater success.” (My words)

It seems like whatever you choose to master and market, you do a great job communicating the benefits!

Hi Susan,

You are spot on in this video. I’ve been involved in internet businesses since 2004 and so far I have a long list of dead websites in my ‘portfolio.’
One good thing to hear was that being an affiliate is a waste of time & effort – I couldn’t agree more. I tried 4 of Clickbanks’ top products based on ranking, gravity and all the other stuff, and made exactly $0.00.
On the other hand, I teach english here in South Korea and made over $2,000 by selling my own ebook on learning english which took me 3 weeks to write and in pdf format. This lead to private students who paid me $40/hour to teach them english on skype. The drawback as you can see here is that I was ‘chained to my desk’ as you referred it to and while the money was awesome, there was no free-time at all.
Last month I created a new website, which I will reveal soon. So far, it’s been a learning experience but one that I know will help me in the future. And I just spend the past year and a half writing an e-book on tax lien certificates that is 128 pages long.
I’m rambling on now. Thanks again for the information. I’m looking forward to video #2 and the others.

Well, wow….I dont wanna say it but I have been raked over the coals by all the hyped guru products myself……I lost my job in aug 2010 and since really wanted to do my own online business but was led down the path of buying into all the hyped crap, and yep, I have spent everything I had and have not made a dime and I believe I’m in over 5k at this point…..with nothing left and on the edge of losing everything including my home……the so called gurus do make the money but it is selling people like me there product, that most times just dont work.

I actually have wanted to do my own product/ebook but do not know how or what to do to get it done and your philosophy seems to be exactly what I am in need of….
The piggy backing of affiliate marketing after or mixed in with your own product, to me sounds very viable and workable….I’m anxious to see the next video and see where this leads…
I have been on the brink of just giving up with this but somehow YOU just breathed a little hope back in me….

Speaking from my experience, the PPC scenario you used is quite misleading (and the campaigns you revealed in your Launch Bandit product certainly yielded significantly greater returns). Just because you know someone who operates on 10% ROI doesn’t mean that it’s normal. 100%+ ROI is still acheivable as an affiliate if you know what you’re doing.

Like anything else (including product creation and list building), PPC marketing takes time to master, so you won’t build a job replacing income over night. No matter what approach you take, you’ll have to put in the time if you want to succeed.

I do agree that the “hybrid” approach is less risky (you can’t have your list Google slapped) and, in most cases, more lucrative business model. I’ve never created a product, so I can’t comment on whether product creation makes sense for a beginner. Personally, I think you learn a lot about your chosen niche/market in the journey to becoming a successful affiliate marketer that will be invaluable when you’re ready to start creating products.

Thanks for the comment George. It’s meant to be a provocative stance and there are some experienced PPC marketers that disagree with me. But in this age of slaps, bans, quality scores, etc. a straight up affiliate marketer relying on PPC traffic needs a big budget to make what I consider a decent living online initially.

I love this idea! It makes so much more sense than being an affiliate for some other company. The strategy is so simple and undoubtedly so much more profitable. Interesting approach. Have spent countless hours and money in an attempt to make money online. Agree, always told to go the affiliate route and drive traffic. Not that easy. Now I understand why I am on so many lists and people sending me offers! I buy a product and then I receive numerous offers. The only missing link is creating my own product. Maybe obtain the resell rights?
